Black Baths, Taps, Showers and Bathroom Accessories
The main bathrooms items that are available in black finishes are metal item such as taps and shower valves which are powder coated to make them black
and painted baths or baths made with a coloured acrylic gel surface.
A few taps, shower valves, shower heads and bath feet are available finished in black powder coating direct from the manufacturers. Some other items including waste
kits and some towel rails can be powder coated black to order. Black finish that is applied using powder coating can be matt, silk or gloss. Off the shelf powder
coated taps and shower parts tend to have a matt finish, bath feet matt or gloss.
Some baths are available off the shelf in black. Some of these are painted with a tough gloss paint (the same as you would use on a car), some have the colour as part
of the actual acrylic gel that is the surface of the bath. Both of these methods give a tough and durable finish but the coloured acrylic is a thicker layer of
colour than the paint layer on a painted bath and so is a bit more resilient to scuffs and scratches. All other baths can be painted black. We can paint
the exterior of any bath black to order either using two-pack car type paint or Farrow and Ball estate eggshell paint, which has a more matt finish.
Almost all black baths are finished in a gloss black. If a gloss black paint surface is damaged and needs touching up it is easily fixed because the retouched
area can be polished into the surrounding area so the fix is effectively invisible. This is not so easy with a matt black bath as polishing will leave a gloss finish
which will contrast with the rest of the bath.
